Excel New Check Performance To Reduce Excel File Size – Episode 2632

Microsoft Excel Tutorial: A new Check Performance Feature debuts in Excel to clean excess cell formatting that can cause large file sizes.

Welcome to episode 2632 of MrExcel’s Net Cast! In this video, we’ll be discussing a new feature in the Windows version of Excel that has been available in Excel online for some time now. It’s called Check Performance and it can help you clean up unwanted cell formats and reduce file sizes. This feature can be found on the Review tab and is definitely worth checking out for any workbook that you’ve been using for years.

Now, before you go ahead and click “optimize all”, it’s important to take a look at what Check Performance has found. It looks for excess formatting, unused cell styles, and unneeded metadata that can slow down your workbook. While it may be tempting to get rid of everything, it’s important to be cautious as there may be some formatting that you actually want to keep. For example, if you have a tooltip cell or if you’re using pixel art, Check Performance may not be able to detect it and could potentially delete it. However, the good news is that the undo button can bring back any unintentionally deleted formatting.

In this video, we’ll also be discussing a potential issue with Check Performance that was discovered while filming. It seems that in some cases, the feature may not work perfectly and could potentially delete intentional formatting. So, while it can be a useful tool for cleaning up excess styles and formats, it’s important to be careful and double check before using it. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them down below and don’t forget to like, subscribe, and ring the bell for more helpful Excel tips and tricks. Thank you for watching and we’ll see you in the next episode of MrExcel’s Net Cast!
